The car did not accelerate.
That was the first thing I noticed. The black sedan following us stayed exactly where it was, far enough away not to draw attention, but close enough to be a tyranny. With every turn Marco made, it adjusted. With every slowdown, it mirrored him.
I lay back, watching the headlights in the rearview mirror. Marco looked me in the eyes. He didn't blink.
"You've seen it," I said.
"Yes," he replied in a monotone voice. Without urgency. Without tension. Just a stateme
