POV of Fredric
There was a different feeling when I saw the smile on Mathilda’s face earlier—a sense of calm I had never experienced before. I could not erase the smile from my own face, eager for morning to come quickly so I could greet Mathilda again. However, this quiet night did not allow me to be at peace, because my phone had rung more than three times already.
The calls were certainly from Paula, and I did not want to answer them. Unfortunately, the silent button on my phone was broken, just like the menu button. My phone needed repairs, so I could not mute this damn ringing. It seemed I had to endure the pain in my ears or keep the phone in the wardrobe. Yes, that was what I did—I quickly took my phone to store it in the small safe in my closet. I was sure there would be no more ringing to disturb my peaceful night. But the silence I had just gained was replaced by the sound of knocking at the door.
“Fredric, are you asleep?”
