As we approached the vehicle and saw the driver, my legs nearly gave out, my stomach tightened, and I had to stop and take a deep breath to keep from vomiting. The driver was covered in blood and broken glass.
The car was driven by Isabella, who was clearly not wearing a seatbelt, as the impact of the crash had sent her flying through the windshield, half of her body on the crumpled hood of the car and half inside. There was blood, and she was moaning in pain. We couldn't touch her, as she wouldn't worsen her injuries, but the scene was harrowing.
I heard Rick calling 911 on his cell phone, and Heitor approached, trying to calm her down. It was as if I were suspended, watching the scene without participating in it.
