Chapter 1 – Betrayed in her own bed
I got home after a long day and my parents were waiting for me in the living room.
- Catarina, sit down because we need to talk. – My father said and seemed very nervous.
- Can you tell me, Dad, what happened? – I asked my father tiredly, I had worked all day, gone to college at night and, when I got home, the only thing I wanted was to take a shower and fall into bed. But that wasn't possible.
- Catarina, your cousin's wedding invitation arrived. – My mother said.
- That little woman is not my cousin! – I said, already getting nervous.
- Catarina, she is your cousin. – My mother said. – You better stop with this childish attack. Melissa already hit her and made a scene here at home. Now that's enough! She's my sister's daughter, so she's your cousin.
- I'm sorry, Mom, but she's nothing to me. – I tried to stay calm. – She slept with my boyfriend in my bed, that’s not something you do.
I had been dating Cláudio for four years, he was my first boyfriend, and I found him in my bed, in my room, having sex with Kelly, my cousin! I was shocked. Of course Melissa, my best friend, went after them. Since then, things have been tense in my house, because my parents insisted that it was nonsense and that I should act as if nothing had happened and go back to living with my cousin.
- He was wrong, Catarina, he was your boyfriend. – My mother argued. – Poor Kelly, she was seduced, he dishonored her, now he’s going to marry her so she won’t be talked about badly in town.
- Oh, mom! Spare me and spare yourself! The whole town knows that Kelly is a slut... – I lost my patience.
- Catarina, watch your vocabulary! – My father called my attention. – Look, if you don't want to be around Kelly, that's fine, but you're going to this wedding. And enough of this rude behavior.
- What do I mean? – I thought I had heard wrong.
- You're going to your cousin Catarina's wedding. That's an order! We're your parents and you're going to obey. – My mother spoke angrily to me, as if I were the one in the wrong in this situation.
- I'm sorry, mom, but I'm not going! I follow your rules, I'm a good daughter, but this time it won't work. I was the one who was offended! I have every right not to want to be the family's joke anymore. – I said, already crying.
- ENOUGH, CATARINA! – My father shouted and scared me. – You're going to this wedding and that's the end of it.
- But, dad...
- I don't care, Catarina! It's important for your mother to keep peace in the family. So you're going and that's it. – My father said, not leaving room for questions.
I went to my room and spent the night crying. The next day I told Melissa everything, and she wasted no time in getting the invitations for a masquerade ball, a gala event, telling my parents that it would be extremely important for my career, since the most important businessmen in the city would be there, I would make very important contacts and our teachers had promised to introduce us to several businessmen who would open doors for our professional future.
At first my parents weren't very convinced, but Melissa's parents talked to them and convinced them that it would be an excellent opportunity for my future. So they agreed that I should take advantage of the opportunity.
- Catarina, you can't say no to me! I've already bought the invitations, the masks and I've even convinced your parents that it's an extremely important event for your professional future, which gave me a lot of work. This party is going to be incredible and you won't miss it! - Melissa said and looked at me with the eyes of an abandoned puppy, clasping her hands together as if pleading.
I was sitting at my desk at work, in the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday, between taking messages and making calls, and Mel showed up with coffee, chocolate cakes and this insistence that I accept to go to the masked ball that took place annually and was the biggest event in our city.
- Oh, Mel, how can I not say no to you? Okay, I'll go!
I agreed to go to the ball, but I still wasn't sure. Anyway, I was going to sleep at Mel's house to avoid the wedding, but I wouldn't go to the party. However, Melissa did everything she could to convince me to go to the party. On Saturday we got ready at her house.
- What's up, huh, my friend! You look so hot! - She handed me a beautiful golden mask, all worked like lace, that covered up to my nose and I put it on. I was wearing a bright red satin dress and the mask matched perfectly. - So, are we ready?
- Yes, we are ready. - I answered and grabbed my bag. – Oh, I forgot my perfume.
- No, it's okay, you'll use my mom's new perfume. She doesn't mind.
- When Fernando, Mel's boyfriend, saw us, he smiled, gave Mel a kiss and said:
- Girls, you look gorgeous! I think you'll leave this party with a new boyfriend, Cat.
- No boyfriend, Nando. Actually, I think I'd better stay, I'm not in the mood to party. Please, Mel, let me stay?
"Flávio"That situation had been the trigger for my indignation. My sister was in trouble, and I needed to help her somehow. I was completely irritated and started to speak loudly; maybe they would wake up from their daydream of a forced marriage."Don't you two realize what you're doing?" I said indignantly as soon as the irritating Guilherme left. "He's going to make Lisa suffer. He'll never give up this reckless, daddy's boy life. He'll never treat her with respect. Do you know how many women he's assaulted? Do you want my sister to be one of them?""Lower your voice, Flávio. This isn't that filthy police station!" My father spoke as loudly as I did. "I told you, your sister's marriage is none of your business. But yours is. And you better go back to Campanário and take responsibility for your wife." "But even if hell freezes over!" I replied. "I don't know how the divorce decree was annulled, but I'm divorcing you again!""Why, Flávio? To continue your little fling with that young
“Flávio”We went to my parents' house, and when we arrived, they were truly surprised. My mother opened her arms and came to greet me.“Son, you’re back, finally!” She hugged me.“Don’t be fooled, Mom. I just came to talk to you. I’m going back to Porto Paraíso today.” I said quickly, and she placed her hand on my face.“When will you understand that you belong here?” she asked.“Not anymore, Mom,” I replied, greeting my father.“Well, I think you’ll change your mind soon,” my father said with a smile.“Are you saying that because of Sabrina, Dad?” I gave him a cynical smile. “I’m trying to understand how she managed to annul the divorce decree.”“From what I know, you dropped the divorce because she was pregnant. And you signed all the documents for her.” But that reckless woman went on a trip and lost my grandson in a miscarriage. The way my father spoke, it seemed like he truly believed in the miscarriage."That's all you know, Dad? That's all you know?" I pressed, and he stared at
"Flávio"I managed to get rid of Sabrina, but I was still restless. I thought it over and decided to go to Campanário to talk to my father and get this story of Sabrina reappearing out of nowhere out of the blue straight to the vest. I would go on Sunday, a quick trip. I would go to Campanário, talk to my parents, and rush back to my little one. We had to face the beasts. But I didn't want the little one to know, I didn't want to put this whole story on her. So I told her I was on call. I hated lying to her, but if I told her about Sabrina and that I was still married, the little one would definitely leave me. With all her convictions, it would be difficult to convince her that I had no idea that Sabrina had managed to annul the divorce decree and that I was going to get rid of her anyway. When I arrived in Campanário, my brother was waiting for me, as we had agreed."Raul, my brother, thank you for coming to pick me up. How are you?" I hugged my brother, who hugged me back."Man, bei
"Flávio"I slammed the door, finished loading my bags into the police car, and left for the airport. Bonfim, beside me, found it all amusing. I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Sabrina behind me huffed and puffed."Flávio, this is outrageous." Sabrina kept complaining, shifting back and forth in the seat, it was irritating."Girl, don't rub yourself against this seat so much. Last night, this police car transported a fugitive who was hiding in the woods, and he hasn't had time to wash up yet. He was in a terrible situation," Bonfim said, and I looked at him, knowing he was making up a story to provoke Sabrina."Oh, was that the police car they transported Remela in?" I asked, making up a random name and playing along with Bonfim. That would be fun."Yes, it was." And he hadn't bathed in a month, hiding in the woods, rummaging through trash cans. I heard they had to shave his head and force him to shave off all his body hair. Bonfim said, and I saw Sabrina looking scared in the
"Flávio"My life with Manu would be perfect if it weren't for Sabrina's ghost haunting my thoughts. I was afraid that at any moment Sabrina would come looking for Manu. Manu loved me, but I don't know if she could handle this, finding out that I was married and that somehow I was still married.I spoke with the lawyer and the police chief this week, but they said it would be a few days before they had any news for me. But I was very nervous and anxious, worried and feeling cornered. And it only got worse after the door to my office opened."What are you doing here?" I asked furiously."It's Friday, Flávio. I came to see if you've sent the little nymph away yet." Sabrina looked at me cynically and ran her hand over the chair before sitting down, as if checking to see if it was clean. "What a horrible little place this police station is, huh?!" "Get lost, Sabrina! Don't bother me!""Oh, hubby, don't talk to me like that. If I get stressed, I might end up making a scene, a really dramati
"Manuela"I arrived at the office singing and smiling, thinking that all the colors were more beautiful, the day brighter, and that life was so good. But it wouldn't be any other way, after the night of love I'd had with my big man, who had finally declared his love to me."Guys, this police chief is truly something!" Rick appeared in front of my desk, smiling."Love is something, Rick!" I smiled at him."Explain, cutie!" He smiled and sat down."He loves me, Rick, he loves me!" I said excitedly."And what's new, Chaveirinho?" Patrício appeared at that moment. "Everyone already knows that.""What do you mean, guys?" I looked intrigued."Only you and Flávio had this doubt, because we all already knew that you love each other," Patrício said, and I looked at Rick. "I didn't say anything." Rick placed his hands open in front of him as if to emphasize that he hadn't."Did he need to? Just look at how these two move." Patrício sat in the other chair across from me. "So, Moreno declared his
