Chapter 27 —A Personal Matter

Sasha twirled her fork on her plate with a distracted smile, looking at Aylin with a different sparkle in her eyes. For days now, the tension in the house seemed to have evaporated between them. There was something warm in the air, something that made dinner feel like they really were a family.
Aylin, without realizing it, was smiling too.
“And what is your country like?” Sasha asked suddenly.
Aylin blinked, surprised by the question.
“It's... different. Much warmer, more chaotic. People are loud, passionate. Everyone knows each other, everyone has an opinion about everything.”
Sasha laughed.
“It sounds... stressful?”
Aylin smiled wistfully.
“I don't know. I miss some things. The food, the music, the afternoon sun. But there are things I don't miss at all.”
Sasha rested her chin on one hand, looking at her with more curiosity.
“Like what?”
