Chapter 24 —That game wasn't over

Narrator:

As soon as Aylin heard the door close behind Sasha, she got up from the table with the intention of disappearing. There was too much tension in that space, too much scent of sin floating between the walls, and the memory of the previous night burned every inch of her skin.

However, she didn't get far. Roman stopped her effortlessly. His hand grabbed her arm, firmly, with a touch that left no room for doubt or escape.

“Where do you think you're going?” he murmured, so close that his breath brushed her neck.

Aylin swallowed, straightening up with what little dignity she had left.

“To take care of my tasks, Mr. Adler.”

Roman smiled slightly, in that way that managed to disarm and infuriate her at the same time. He didn't let go of her arm; on the contrary, he pulled her gently until she was pressed against his chest.

She looked up, struggling to maintain her composure.
