Sabrina did not switch off her phone on purpose. Her phone had run out of battery.
At that moment, she lay curled up on her mother’s sofa, crying wordlessly. She had no idea her phone was dead.
An hour or two later, she was exhausted from crying, almost dehydrated. Her mother brought her a bowl of vegetable soup and called out to her softly. “Sabbie, get up and drink something, child.”
Sabrina sat up. She forced a slight smile onto her face. “Mom, I’m fine.”
“I know.” Gloria comforted her.
