Who the hell was that man and why did he look like he was sculpted by the fucking gods?! His attitude left me somewhat shocked . He literally snatched the cup out of my hands when I handed it to Mr. Stan. He definitely had to be a high-ranking position in the company or very close friends with Sebastian to be acting so haughty and arrogant.
I went back to the table to make another coffee for Sebastian . I was a little confused, the question still running through my mind: Who was that man? He was so handsome he should be illegal. He has beautiful eyes that could completely hypnotize you. His entire face was so fucking perfect.
I finished making the coffee and took a roll from the tray to Mr. Stan. When I turned around I realized that the man was no longer in the hallway, nor was Sebastian , so I walked directly to his office.
"Here's your coffee, sir," I said as I entered, offering him what I had in my hands.
-Thank you so much, darling, how kind of you- He replied, taking a small sip of coffee –You have to give me the recipe for this, I don't know what you put in it, but it's really good- I just laughed at the comment.
-I don't mind making you coffee, but if you insist, I'll give you the recipe someday-
-Hey, by the way, excuse my friend's attitude, he can be a complete idiot sometimes- He said in a somewhat more serious tone.
So the arrogant Greek god was your friend. Will he work here? I desperately wanted to ask something about him, but I didn't, not wanting to be seen as prying.
"Don't worry, it's nothing, I just had to make some more coffee," I replied without giving it too much importance, although inside I was dying to ask at least her name.
Without many further distractions, we continued with our work. Sebastian continued analyzing a bit of the case he had, while I began to study the previous cases he'd given me that morning. That's how the rest of the shift went until my time to leave. Today, I didn't feel like staying longer than usual since I was feeling a little tired, so I decided I'd better go home.
"Do you need anything else, Sebastian ?" I asked before leaving his office.
"Nothing, you can go now, darling. See you tomorrow," he said goodbye with a small smile, which I reciprocated before leaving the place completely.
I went to get my things from my apartment so I could finally leave, which I did quickly, I said goodbye to Darcy who was also about to leave and I left the place feeling calm but a little tired, I loved learning every day from what Sebastian taught me but I had to admit that it was somewhat exhausting, and it wasn't even a complete job in itself, I had to mentally prepare myself for these situations and know that I would face a lot of stress and pressure with each case, but I was sure that I could handle it.
The next day arrived quickly. I felt much better, in a better mood and more rested, ready to continue with the work left over from yesterday, but as always, I would first do the daily duties Mrs. Greta instructed. I arrived at my apartment, greeting everyone politely. After greeting Darcy , I headed over to Greta.
-Good morning Miss Jones, what are you doing today?- I greeted her kindly, when she heard me she saw me uglier than she has seen me other days, as if she was about to jump on me. -Is something wrong?- I asked in a serious voice without letting myself be intimidated.
-You don't have anything pending today, "little girl"- She began to tell me with sarcasm and annoyance, I looked at her confused –They want to see you on the top floor right now- She finished informing me.
Why would they want to see me there? When there are new cases, Sebastian just calls me. And why does it bother her so much? What's her fucking problem? I didn't say anything. I just turned around and headed for the elevator and dialed the top floor. It was probably Sebastian who wanted to see me.
When I reached the top floor, I walked toward Sebastian 's office . It was still very early. I'd never been here this early before, and the floor was practically empty. I knocked on the office door twice when I got in front of it.
-Come in- I heard the intern's voice, I opened the door and I could see Sebastian sitting behind his desk -Aurora, good morning beautiful- He greeted me as soon as he saw me .
-Good morning Mr. Stan, they told me downstairs that they wanted to see me- I reported, still confused by not knowing what was going on.
-Oh, yes... What happens is that Mr. Novoa wanted to see you- He informed me, feeling my face turn pale.
Mr. Novoa? I'd better not talk about Mr. Novoa, I'm thinking...
"Are you referring to the boss?" I asked somewhat nervously.
-Yes, him- He answered simply.
Oh no... Shit! Shit! Shit! What the hell does the fucking boss want to see me for?! What did I do wrong?! Is he going to fire me?
Please Aurora, you don't even work here, how are you going to get fired?
I take it back, I don't want to meet the boss, I don't give a damn who he is, I don't want to go with the grumpy old man...
"Did I do something wrong, sir?" I dared to ask Sebastian , my face somewhat distressed.
-No, not at all pretty, she just wants to meet you, nothing's wrong, don't worry- I try to calm my nerves.
How can I stay calm? The most feared and respected man in Boston wants to see me for who knows what, to judge my stay here, surely, but what does it matter? I've never been known for being a coward, and today won't be the day I prove it, so let's do this.
"Do you want me to go now?" I finally asked Sebastian .
-Sure, go ahead, when you get out you can stop by here and finish yesterday's cases if you like- He offered with a warm smile.
-Sure...- I said simply leaving his office and walking straight into the lion's den... I mean, Mr. Novoa's office.
I stood in front of the large mahogany door that I've been looking at with curiosity for the past four weeks, sighed, regulated my breathing and emanating security and confidence, I knocked on the door twice, heard a male voice on the other side inviting me in and I opened the door, finally I could see the face of that person sitting behind the desk, and... a second...
What's he doing here? Where's that grumpy old man?! He can't be the boss... That damn coffee-stealing Greek god from yesterday was sitting in the boss's chair... Was that Rafael Novoa?!
I stopped in my place looking at that man, had I gone to the wrong office?
-Mr. Novoa?- I asked with much hesitation in a somewhat low voice. He analyzed me with his eyes, looking me up and down for a couple of seconds.
-Come in, close the door- The man said simply with an imposing and cold voice.
Without letting him know that his presence intimidated me a bit, I acted as confidently and confidently as I could, not even letting on that I was nervous inside. I closed the door as he requested and walked over to his desk, where I stood, not daring to sit down.
-Good morning, sir- I greeted politely. -Nice to meet you- I said, extending my hand in front of him. He looked at it for a second, got up from his chair, and shook my hand, maintaining contact for a few seconds longer than usual.
"Likewise, Miss West," he replied, still looking into my eyes. I slowly withdrew my hand and placed it behind my back, remaining serious. He seemed to be analyzing my every move. He returned to his desk and sat down, all the while still staring at my face. This was becoming uncomfortable and annoying.
Are we going to stare at each other's faces all morning without speaking, or why so much fucking mystery?
"Did you want to talk to me, sir?" I asked when he didn't say anything.
-Yes...- He simply answered –Sit down-
Well, what this man has in good looks, he also makes for rudeness. Doesn't he know the word "Please"? I saw him frowning slightly, but I didn't say anything.
Benedict 's student ... I've heard a lot about you- He said maintaining deep eye contact, I admit that his eyes are ridiculously beautiful, I've never seen such beautiful eyes.
-Well... I hope they were good things- I answered uncomfortably, not knowing exactly how to respond to that.
"They are... according to Benedict and Sebastian , they claim you're... brilliant. Tell me, are you some kind of... brainiac?" He asked, leaning back in his chair.
A brainiac? I don't think so. I knew the "brainiacs" who studied with me at university, and I definitely wasn't one of them. Although my grades were good, I didn't have the perfect 100 like those people who would kill themselves studying a book days before the exam. And that was something Professor Benedict saw in me. He knew that my grades were a simple reflection of the passion and love I had for my studies, my career, and this profession, and that's why we got along so well. He knows the respect I have for this and how passionate I was about what I did.
-I wouldn't say that, sir. I think they only see the respect, passion, and responsibility I put into doing things. My teacher knows how much I love doing this, and I think that's the reason for my recommendations.- I tried to say, not wanting to look conceited.
"So you're saying you're not as smart as they claim to be?" he questioned with a raised eyebrow.
What is this guy implying?
-No sir, that's not what I'm implying. I consider myself very intelligent, but not a "brainiac" or a "bookworm" as you might think... they are different things. - I defended myself by contradicting what he was saying. He seemed surprised by my answer but didn't say anything for a couple of seconds.
God, what did I get myself into?
Rafael's POV
arrive at my office. Yesterday , I had asked Sebastian to schedule an interview so I could meet her. Seeing her made me somewhat curious to know more about her. It was strange. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about her face before going to sleep. Of course, it was just that my body reacted to hers. I'm not blind enough to deny the undeniable: she's beautiful, but nothing more than that.
When she finally entered my office, I could see confusion on her face. Did she expect to see someone else here? I immediately let her in, but from that moment on, she showed nothing but confidence and assurance in her actions, which was new to me because people only show nervousness and fear when they see me. Why couldn't she?
I tried to throw her off by making a comment about her intelligence, but instead of showing any hesitation in responding, she just looked at me with a frown and responded precisely to what I said, completely contradicting me.
In the twelve years I've been running this company, no one has ever dared to contradict anything I've said. How is it that she isn't afraid of me? I was so impressed, I should have put a stop to it and demanded that she never commit such a mistake again, but I didn't; I just watched her closely.
I paid attention to her face, she was very pretty, she had gorgeous green eyes that contrasted with her light brown skin, a perky nose, and thick, fleshy lips that could entice anyone to taste them, she was a complete spectacle of a woman. Her hair was brown, which she wore halfway up, and the moment she walked in I could notice she was dressed professionally and elegantly, showing off her deliciously perfect body... She was a very observant man, paying special attention to details, especially if it was about something that... caught my attention.
Even if I was captivated by her pretty face, I wouldn't make things so easy for her. I'm serious when I say I don't want just anyone in my company, and that includes her. So I got up from my chair and walked over to a drawer where I kept my filed cases. I took out a moderately complicated one and returned to my desk.
I pulled out the last page that had the results and how to proceed with the case and handed her the folder. She looked at me with a raised eyebrow and some confusion on her face.
-I want you to tell me how you would solve this case, right now, I give you one hour to do it- I asked, resting my chin on my hand, observing each of his movements. He looked at me as if he didn't quite like what I ordered him to do, but he didn't say a single word, he just opened the folder and began to read.
I knew it was a somewhat complicated case to solve, you had to have a broad knowledge of criminal law to know what to do quickly, it was a case that I understood could take at least two hours to even begin to get close to an answer, but I was very surprised to see that Aurora resolved each point quickly, without hesitation and without a single mistake.
It wasn't every day that someone left me so impressed, and this girl did it...
She solved the case in just 40 minutes, accurately and correctly. What is this girl?! A robot?! They were definitely right, she's... brilliant.
Sebastian was right, if this continues, Aurora would be a valuable asset that could be of great help in solving future cases. I need to have her here. She can't be wasting time in the offices downstairs doing simple paperwork. I'll order her to be transferred to this floor as soon as possible and give her an office where I can have her close by. I need to have her close by.
"I admit you did it... well," I said after she finished doing what I asked, "well" was an understatement, it was impressive.
"Thank you," she replied simply with a small smile.
-Well, this is what will happen, starting tomorrow you will work on this floor, you will be assigned an office at the end of the hall next to Sebastian 's , you will work more directly on the cases with us, understood? - I ordered without hesitation and maintaining my firm posture and without any expression, she seemed a little surprised by my decision.
"Yes, sir," he replied a couple of seconds later.
"Okay, you can go. Tell Sebastian to come to my office," I said as I watched her stand up. I had a nice view of her sculpted body as I watched her walk out the door.
-Sure, excuse me- He added finally before closing the door.
Damn! Why is this woman making me hesitate so much? I think I'm just reacting to her beauty, adding to that the fact that she's too brilliant, too brilliant to be true. There must be something wrong with her, she can't be that perfect...
Shit... What a woman!
Aurora's POV
WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!
Damn Novoa, he wanted to test me with a case, but fortunately, I managed to solve every single one of the points. I shut him up and showed that I'm where I am for a reason. I felt proud of myself. Something that had me feeling bittersweet was hearing that he wanted me to work on this floor. From other people's words, I knew the boss was a pain in the ass and demanded nothing but perfection. He was extremely demanding, but it was something I completely understood.
It would be a bit difficult to deal with that kind of pressure constantly, but on the other hand, it motivated me a little knowing that I would see him every day, the fact that he was a fucking pain in the ass and was arrogant and rude did not take away from the fact that he looked like a fucking model, he was one of the most handsome men I had ever seen in my entire fucking existence, I was no saint and I knew how to appreciate the beauty of a man when I had it in front of me, so it would not bother me to have something nice to look at every day.
Something told me something good was about to begin. We'll see what life has in store for me...
