"You keep him entertained too much, you know that, right?" Claire said as she picked up a jade pendant she had brought back from one of her trips.

"He understands me, Claire, and I'm sure he has his reasons," I replied defensively.

She scoffed and looked at me with almost insulting pity.

"Reasons you couldn't explain?" he laughed.

She walked to the mirror and put on the necklace. Her fingers gently brushed against the gemstone as it accentuated her skin.
