The gallery was closed to the public that day. Roman had gone to check on some newly arrived pieces, although in reality he needed time away from home, from the chaos, from the confusion that was slowly but steadily seeping in.

He was on the second floor, reviewing a series of accounting records, when he heard footsteps in the hall. They weren't Dominic's, they weren't the staff's. And no one was expected.

“I didn't know I had to make an appointment to see you,” said a familiar voice from the doorway.

Roman looked up, unsurprised.

“Your security still trusts my face more than your judgment,” she replied, walking calmly toward the desk.
