Honestly, I haven’t been able to focus since Mrs. Rosa told me the news earlier. It has been nearly an hour and a half since she confided her condition to me, and I’m still struggling to regain my composure.

“Mathilda, what are you thinking about? Your eyes have been blank, and you’ve barely touched your food. Are you feeling unwell?” Mrs. Rosa asked casually.

She really had no idea how overwhelmed I felt. How was I supposed to stay calm? She’s someone incredibly precious to me—someone whose kindness I can never repay—and this news feels like a looming threat.
