Part Two - The Escape

The path he followed after the barbaric crime committed against his adoptive father in his own home, in trying to prevent him from continuing to beat his mother violently was uncertain. The girl fled through the forest aimlessly. During the flight, he wondered what had actually happened to Damasio, asked in his thoughts whether he was really dead or survived the stab in the chest. The dense forest that followed after leaving the road where he had been walking for several hours, to prevent it from being easily located by those who might come after him, was dark and cold, although it is still day and the sun is with them. rays burning the skin.

It was a walk as if he were walking blindly, both because of the darkness that formed with each step taken into the forest, and because he did not know the place entirely. It was only possible to hear the song of insects and owls that was a permanent night there, it seemed that there was never a day in that part of nature. Suddenly he stopped and looked up in fright, he saw from many meters high the tip of gigantic centuries-old trees, with huge stems and with roots that could be seen scattered over the earth. He could see the tip of the tall branches that looked more like branches of small plants, so far away from where she was.

He remembered that he was leaving behind a bloodstained past, so he realized that the only way out would be to continue his journey. He struggled to reach any light that would guide him out of that closed forest, hoping to find refuge and where to spend the night. The walk in that darkness was long, I couldn't figure out where to step. Finally, the environment began to be illuminated by sunlight. The denser area ended and a few steps away, after leaving clean, there was a cave with an ideal aspect for a good rest after several hours walking without knowing for sure which direction it was going.

It was late afternoon and at night it was approaching, in the sky a loom was forming, the clouds filled with water gave signs that a great storm was forming. The rain began to fall followed by a strong wind, that type of climate was typical of that region, hot and cold. Hours scorching sun and then sudden rain falls. The cave was scary, dark, but ideal for protection from the wind outside. Being inside the place, without going further into the bottom fearing the worst, he sat down and leaned his head against the surrounding walls, exhausted.

He thought of all the things that had happened to him in the past few hours. Her thoughts flashed back to the past, when, despite the constant aggressions suffered by her mother by the grotesque Damasio, it was still possible to live with her good times, when both were alone and away from him, living like two great friends, one taking care of the other. It was her biggest dream to be able to finish her studies, start work and be able to free her from that horrible captivity. But the unforeseen happened and her dreams were prevented from coming true, now she would have to face the harsh reality before which found. She became a fugitive, certainly wanted by the police as the one who, after being adopted by the couple, decided to kill them.

Nothing more convenient to deduce, since no one could imagine the hell the two women lived alongside an addicted man like that. Of course, this was not a reason for her to take the life of the violent individual. But it was the only way he found, at that time, to try to contain his violence. With her gaze fixed on the rain and the strong wind that blew outside, she babbled something almost imperceptible, as if speaking to herself:

 — He killed her, that wretch killed her. Damn addict!

Lost among so many thoughts and still quite frightened, overwhelmed by fatigue due to the long walk that led her there, she leaned her head against the stone wall and fell asleep. The storm didn't seem to want to pass, it lasted all night. The day was rising and the sun reappeared after several hours of rain, without any break.

The birds sang in the tall trees that covered the undergrowth of the place the girl woke up to a beautiful singing of the colorful bird that strategically landed near the cave where she slept. He seemed to have been sent on purpose to wake her from her heavy sleep and continue on her journey into the unknown. When he woke up, he still remained with his eyes closed listening to the soft birds singing.

Until he felt something cold going over his legs, accompanied by a strange noise, it was as if a rattle was being shaken. He knew that noise, lived a long time away from the city and had a long contact with nature, knew that it was a rattlesnake, a poisonous and highly poisonous animal. He learned in science classes that reptiles have infrared vision, they only perceive the presence of their prey by their movement. The secret to avoiding your attacks is to remain still, completely still, trying to avoid even wheezing.

It stood there, paralyzed for a few seconds until the huge snake passed calmly over its legs. She was not terrified, she was brave and in addition to being brave, she liked reptiles, it was not for nothing that most people in the city found her strange, a little crazy. She had her friend Flor at home, a pet boa she raised from a very young age. It was a gift from Otaviano, his uncle, also a little weird.

The poor thing stayed there, abandoned after the tragedy that happened to her and radically changed her life. The night passed, the storm was gone, it was a new day. Now was the time to get out of there and move on, try to find someone who could help you. After that dense forest there was a small village, where people of a bad nature lived that their mother always warned to stay away from.

They were brothels, where men and women who were enslaved by alcohol and prostitution lived. But I had no other solution than to go there and try to get some help, after all, I was hungry, dirty and needing to rest from the long journey. The house seen in the distance was different from the ones he used to see when he was in the city, entirely made of wood, with a large lounge full of tables and chairs, as well as a huge balcony.

Behind the shelf full of many bottles of strong drinks. The house was strangely empty and with no people around. The door was very wide and was open, with slow and cautious steps entered the place well, lit by lanterns a type of homemade lamps, which worked on gas, generally used in places where there is no electricity. Undaunted, she started to walk around the room, watching every detail and looking for someone who could receive her.

A song from ancient times was heard in the background, a perfume of roses hung in the room, it seemed to have been poured there in great quantity. That big house seemed to have been built to receive many people, but it was deserted.
