Genaro, Pablo’s father, jumped out of his chair when he received the call from the hospital.
"What? Pablo, what?!" he exclaimed, a mix of shock and terror in his voice, as he rushed out of his office, furiously typing on his cellphone.
An hour later, Cristian, Diana, and Genaro were in the waiting room, conflicted and weighed down by worry.
"What happened?" Kevin asked as he entered the waiting room, visibly distressed.
"Pablo had alcohol poisoning," Genaro answered, tears in his eyes. "I don’t understand what we did wrong. We raised our children with principles and values, tried to be there for them despite the demanding hours we spent at the company."
Genaro let out a sob, filled with pain, disappointment, and guilt. Maybe he should have paid more attention to his son, done more than just give him advice when he started acting strangely.
For his part, Kevin turned pale and felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on him. Alcohol poisoning? Pablo? The healthiest man he knew?
