He grasped her arm so tightly that his nails dug into her skin. His voice trembled as he asked, almost squeezing the words out through his teeth, "So, if I ask you to sleep with me to repay me, you'll agree to it?"

"If I weren't pregnant, sure," Clara replied. "As long as you agree that we owe each other nothing from now on after that."

"Owe each other nothing?" he stared at her intently, his voice hoarse. "Clara, is that really what you want? To have nothing to do with me?"
