Under her mother’s insistence, Rosalie had no choice but to take the white evening gown into the bathroom to change.
A moment later, she emerged and asked, “Mom, how do I look?”
“Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Come, sit here. Let me do your makeup. Just a light touch to make you even more stunning. You’ll be the most beautiful woman there tonight.”
Mrs. Lafayette was an elegant and dignified woman. Truthfully, she had never been entirely satisfied with her daughter’s usual level of makeup. It was always too understated, almost like she was not wearing any at all.
