I felt relieved, but Isabelle's expression changed the moment the doctor said the pregnancy test was negative.

I knew she'd always dreamed of becoming a mother, but I hadn't realized a negative test would hurt her that deeply.

She needed iron supplements and several other medications. She hadn't been eating or sleeping. Her body had finally reached its limit.
