The afternoon was drawing to a close, with that exhaustion weighing heavily on my bones after so many days of waiting. I was at the hotel across from the hospital, trying to get some sleep, when my cell phone rang. The name on the screen sent a chill down my spine and filled me with hope at the same time.

“Guillermo?” I asked in a whisper.

On the other end, his emotion was breaking.

“Sofi… she woke up.” He paused, as if tears w
