Things wouldn't be so odd if Darius had only missed the chauffeur's movements. But he couldn't help thinking further since he didn't notice Brett either.

Darius raised an eyebrow at this. Then, he frowned when he felt someone tugging his arm. No one had acted this way with him before, and he didn't like it. It soon stopped, though.

He turned to see Brett looking at him with doe eyes. "Darius, you look fierce and have a bad reputation, but you're the kindest person I've ever met." His gaze was sincere.

Darius breathed deeply. He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. Brett sensed this, and his gaze turned cautious. "Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I just wanted to thank you."

Darius glanced at him, then turned to look out the window. "Do you know the guy who tried to smash the window?" As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he regretted it.

Brett barely showed up for class. He wasn't even interested in the goings-on at the university. How could he possibly know that guy if he didn
