The sound of the door slamming shut as he leaves brings me back to reality—a reality I definitely didn’t want, yet one I had begged for so many times. Aaron finally said what I’d wanted to hear for so long, and even though his words were harsh, my reaction wasn’t what I expected.
“I can’t believe how pathetic you are,” I mutter angrily at myself, covering my tear-soaked face as more tears stream down my cheeks. “Stop crying already. This is what you’ve always wanted.”
I’m not supposed to feel this way, especially not about something I’ve begged for so much.
“Yes, you should stop crying.” I move my hands away from my face when I hear a voice that I didn’t notice enter. Shame washes over me from head to toe. “I’m glad you’re feeling better, Violet.”
