Gale felt lost.

Nicole hugged the doll and lay quietly, closing her eyes. "I'm going to sleep."

"You don't want to listen to the story anymore?"

"I don't."

Gale had no choice but to close the storybook in her hand.

Shawn walked in.

Nicole remained motionless.

Shawn sat on the edge of the bed. "Nicole, Daddy came to say good night to you."

She still closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
