Zachary said, “Your daughter is already in elementary school, and she’s doing well. It has been a while since I’ve seen Clo-clo.”
“You’ll see her soon. Clo-clo is well-behaved as always. She’s becoming a good big sister.”
Like Zachary, Ben was biased toward the daughter. He doted on his daughter while being strict with his son. He often told Connor that the family business would eventually fall on him, so the burden should not fall on Chloe.
The kids did not understand when they were younger. Now that Chloe was of school age, she would ask Ben, “Daddy, does Connor have to be the one to take over the business? Why can’t I do it? Is it because I’m a girl?
“Do you think I’m not as capable as Connor? Why can’t I be in charge?”
Ben spent a lot of time explaining things to Chloe.
In the end, Chloe said, “Do you think I’m not as good as Connor, Daddy? Is that why I can’t be named the successor?”
Ben was forced to say, “Your gender doesn’t matter. It’s all about what you can do.
