Kate went to change her clothes while Bastien tidied everything up. He prepared some sandwiches for Kate and placed two pieces of cake on small plates. He made freshly squeezed orange juice and filled a small bottle. When Kate came out, Bastien had everything ready —
“Kate…”
“I’m ready.”
“Here, it’s orange juice. Drink up; it will be good for our little one.”
“Thank you, Bastien.” Kate drank, and Bastien took the bag with the food —
“What’s that?”
“Some sandwiches in case you get hungry at the clinic and two little pieces of cake to share with Ara.”
“Thanks.” They left for the clinic. Bastien offered his arm for Kate to hold onto. They walked slowly to avoid causing any contractions —
“Don’t you want me to carry you?”
“No, I’m fine, don’t worry.” When they arrived at Ara’s room, Bastien set the bag on the furniture and greeted Ara —
“I’m leaving now, Kate, please let me know when you leave so I can pick you up.”
“Where will you go?”
