Kate woke up in pain. Her body showed the aftereffects of the drug: her head ached, and so did her body. She felt Bastien’s protective arms wrapped around her as he slept beside her. Kate smiled and placed a kiss on his lips, then on his neck.

“Good morning, princess. How are you feeling?” Bastien asked as he sat up and reached for an orange juice and medication on the nightstand.

“Horrible…” Kate whispered.

“Did you feel the same after they drugged you?”

“No, my love. I’m tougher. But I felt worse seeing you like this—it erased any pain I could feel.” He stroked her gently as she drank, then pulled her close again.

“Thank you for saving me. How did you find me?”

“I just… guessed.” Bastien lied. He’d never admit the collar with her initials had a built-in GPS. If she ever found out, she’d never wear it again.
