Elliot had texted his family doctor earlier, and he had described Avery's symptoms to the doctor. The doctor had told Elliot that Avery could either be ill or pregnant.

Elliot quickly dismissed the former, as Avery was a doctor herself; if she truly was terminally ill, she would not be attending Tammy's wedding, not to mention the party the night before.
