“I didn't know that money was marked, you have to believe me, Diablo,” Miranda blurted out, sinking into the armchair. “I didn't know...”
Roman slammed both hands on the sides of the chair, making it shake.
“You're lying!” he roared. “Of course you knew! You knew exactly where that money came from! You knew what would happen if you touched it... that's exactly why you did it!” Miranda shuddered, but she didn't look away.
Roman approached her with a dark, contained fury so dense it seemed to fill the air in the office. “What you didn't know...” he continued in a low voice, but one full of venom. “What you never knew... is that I always have insurance. Always.” He looked at her with dry hatred, without drama, just a cutting certainty. “I had something to negotiate with. Something to save me if everything fell apart. And I did it. I survived, I held out long enough to see the one who wanted to erase me fall... an
