She got to her
feet in a rage, making her chair screech against the floor. She stormed over to
the sofa and plopped down on it before looking at her phone. Instantly, her
anger disappeared—Darius was the one calling her. Her breathing sped up, but
she calmed down in a few seconds.
She knew he had
to be calling because something had happened. There was no other reason for him
to call her. She exhaled, feeling disappointed. Still, she answered the phone
and said sweetly, “Mr. Reid, this is Erin.”
Darius asked, “Is
Zack still working on something at the company?”
Erin didn’t know
what had happened, but she had an ominous feeling. “No, he left for Almiron
City two days ago.” Suddenly, she realized what was wrong. She shot to her feet
and cried, “I think I know what’s happened, but I need some time to think
