Rebecca was sitting by Veronica’s side. She noticed that the swelling around her right eye darkened as if blood clotted there.

Selena put her hand on Rebecca’s shoulder. “She’s going to be fine.”

“What happened to her eye, Mom?” Rebecca asked. “It looks like someone punched her, but I know she didn’t get punched because I was with her all the time.”

“Didn’t the doctor say that stress can sometimes do that?” Selena said.
