Deirdre found it incredulous because Brendan used to be such an arrogant person. He would never allow himself to show his weakness in the presence of others, even if it was just a stranger that he had never met before.
Yet, he tolerated those strange glances now.
Deirdre felt her chest wrenched in intense pain. She was in so much pain that she furrowed her eyebrows and could not refrain from taking a step forward.
She stopped before Brendan. He was stunned for a moment and then raised his head, and his body became frozen soon afterward.
"Are you looking for me?" Deirdre made herself sound calm with great effort.
Brendan's eyes were bloodshot. He stood up abruptly, and a moment before he wrapped his arms around Deirdre, his movements halted to a stop.
"Are you not discharged from the hospital yet, Deirdre?"
Deirdre behaved like her usual self. "I am discharged, but I'm waiting for Sterling to pick me up. He is getting the car."
