The next day, Liberty only woke up at noon. She had barely managed to fall asleep around four o’clock but slept through the morning. Reaching for her phone on the bedside table, she checked the time and was surprised to see it was almost noon.

Liberty quickly sat up. She changed her clothes at lightning speed, freshened up, and then hurried downstairs.

The first floor was quiet and only the sound of her footsteps echoed through the house.

“Caroline. Caroline?” Liberty called out twice, but th
