We arrived at the shelter and there were many animals. Clara was excited and even a little sad, which touched me. She walked between the kennels and played with the puppies that came close to the gate.
In the last kennel, she saw a large dog lying in the back. He had round, sad eyes, floppy ears, short fur, and was black with a small white spot running from between his eyes to his muzzle and a small white paw. He was alone in the kennel.
Clara bent down and asked the person in charge to open the door. When it was opened, Clara crawled to the back and petted the dog, who looked at her with his head to one side. She whispered something in his ear, and he sniffed her and got up. She left, and he left with her.
"There, uncle, this is it!" She hugged the dog around the neck. He was almost as tall as her, reaching above her waist, and he licked her face, making her laugh. "What's his name, sir?"
