Jane and Lilian exchanged glances before Jane calmly replied, “May I know who your boss is? Do we know him?”The man in black remained polite as he replied, “We were instructed as such. Since he said so, he must know you.”Jane handed the bags she was carrying to the men in black as she said, “Fine. Since an old acquaintance has invited us, we’ll stop by. Please help me put my bags into my car.”The corner of the man’s mouth twitched, but he still accepted the bags Jane handed him.Lilian followed suit. They finally freed their hands. The two ladies insisted on driving their own car, not wanting to sit in the man’s car. The man in black figured it was alright since they had strength in numbers and quite a few cars. They could just box in Jane’s car on the road.Plus, the two Mrs. Johnsons were not familiar with Havenmill, unlike them, who had been working in this city all this while and were very familiar with every street and alleyway. However, he insisted on having one of his

“It’s our private matter what our relationship with Laurence Young is. I don’t think there’s a need to tell you.”Tony was left speechless for a moment before he continued, “Please don’t misunderstand. I’m not trying to trace his family tree or anything like that. It’s just that Laurence has the same name as one of our family’s children who got lost thirty years ago.“Thirty years ago, a tragedy occurred for us Longbottoms. Our family head at the time and his whole family were murdered by some robbers who stole a lot of very valuable items. By the time we arrived, it was too late.“Then, when we were tidying up their bodies later on, we realized their youngest son was missing. He was only about a year old at the time and could not walk or speak smoothly, and his nanny and bodyguards had gone missing too.“We think that the child was taken away by his nanny and his bodyguard, and avoided being killed.“That child was named Laurence, and if he hadn’t gone missing, he would be the on

Manny murmured a few instructions to the butler, and the latter excused himself. He then gave Laurence a call. Once the call connected, Manny said, “Laurence, the two Mrs. Johnsons are guests at the Longbottoms’. If you wish to take them home, you should show up. If not, I can’t guarantee they will remain unharmed.” No doubt Jane and Lilian were held hostage. Manny ended the call before Laurence had a chance to say anything. Jane and Lilian exchanged looks. With her eyes, Jane asked Lilian whether they should fight their way out of there or stay. Lilian was into the idea of staying. “Mr. Longbottom, what’s the meaning of this?” Jane looked enraged. “Are you holding us hostage?” Tony chuckled. “Let’s not use such a crude term. We are extending our utmost hospitality to you. You are our guests of honor.” Lilian said, “Since we are the honored guests, why haven’t we been offered a meal? We’ve had nothing but light snacks while shopping.” “At this hour? You expect

Since it was just Jane and Lilian, the men in black did not see them as a threat. Though Lilian was an expert in medicine, no one linked her to Laurence’s wicked methods. Their alarm bells did not go off when Lilian pulled out a small packet of powder. Plus, Lilian had her back facing them. Lilian whipped around quickly, and before the men in black could react, the itching agent was thrown at them. They were caught off guard. “How long have they been gone?” Manny asked exasperatedly. “T-They just left. Gah! It’s driving me mad. Just kill me!” The agony of scratching was too much for him. He rolled on the floor and asked for his misery to end. “Butler! Butler!” Manny cried out loud. The butler hurried over. “Sir.” Manny pointed at the men in black and said, “Take them to the pool. Dump them in there for a good clean. Change out the water later.” Otherwise, the family would be itchy from swimming. The butler called for reinforcements to carry the men in black to t

“That’s something else.” Looking solemn, Manny voiced his concern, “Pops, are we still going as planned?” He was referring to the late-night raid. Tony fell silent for a bit before uttering, “Everything is in place, so we must carry on. We have been taking chances in the last thirty years. It’s always better to be overly cautious than leave a threat alive.“We know that Laurence is the boy we’ve been tracking down. At the very least, we now have enough indirect evidence to be certain. The family seal, token, and totem must be with Laurence.“Tonight’s objective is to seize the heirlooms. Our odds are slim when it comes to killing Laurence. He holds his own in a fight. Plus, his bodyguards are not to be messed with, either. It’s like they are straight out of the Matrix movie.”Noelle could easily defeat ten of their assassins all on her own. Laurence loved to fight dirty, just like Lilian. No surprise there. The student learned from the mentor for sure. With a tail already
