As the four of them stood under the aurora, they stared at the arrow in shock, trading glances.None of them had any idea why the majestic phenomenon would suddenly assume that shape. They had been looking at the Vairocana hand seals for days now, and looking up to the vastness of the aurora always made them feel small. As the Vairocana hand seals were a Buddhist technique in the first place, the solemnity and pressure were all the more apparent. The way that aurora suddenly turned into a mere arrow was hence… unsettling.Staring at it, Charlie murmured, "What's with the arrow? Is it guiding me there?"As he finished, the arrow disappeared and reappeared three times in the sky."Huh…" Charlie murmured. "It understands language…"Penny was gaping. "Mr. Wade, it's pointing south… Could there be something there?"Ruby shrugged. "It's been teaching Mr. Wade the Vairocana hand seals, but now it's forming an arrow pointing south… Perhaps it really is pointing at providence as Penny

Vera didn't try to dissuade Charlie, but she was still worried about his safety.Unlike before, she would have been objective and weighed the risks against opportunities. Now, he was her sole emotional attachment, and she had long since fallen for him, so she refused to let him risk himself at all.Even his personal vendetta didn't matter—she just wanted him to be safe. However, Charlie had made up his mind. And as a bystander, she shouldn't try to intervene, but only keep her concerns to herself.Still, Charlie could tell she was worried and smiled. "Don't worry. Given present circumstances, I don't think I'm necessarily in trouble even if I ran into that elder.""Why do you say so?" Vera asked in surprise.Charlie smiled. "Just think about it. He mind-bent nearly a hundred members of the Japanese Antarctic research crew, which would take a toll on his Reiki reserves. Even now, he must be fleeing through the south pole, which also costs him Reiki to survive. "And with the US

That was when Barlin had an idea that sent chills down his spine. The fact that he couldn't get through the ward to see what's behind it only filled him with fear—fear of the scale of power wielded by cultivators before the Degenerate Age of Dharma.Hence, he started to think about where he should go from here instead. But since he had no better place to be, he could just stay here and take a crack at the ancient ward, until polar summer arrived and the Roaring Forties calmed down enough for commercial vessels to pass through. It was all the more happier that he somehow found a breakthrough before that. If he couldn't, he just had to return to the Qing Eliminating Society and report his findings. He just had to come clean with Fleur. She would most definitely get upset about hiding the myth of the Gate of Transcendence from her, but he could just play dumb and call it hearsay that somehow was reality all along. And with that, he could let Fleur take a crack at the ward herself w

Barlin's Reiki sense was a class above Charlie's.On one hand, while his cultivation was definitely higher, it was also awkward that he didn't have much chance to replenish his Reiki—unlike Charlie, who had ample amounts of pills to recover.Hence, like a starving beggar, he was sharper when it came to the smell of food, his body hair standing and tingling when Charlie's Reiki reached him.He didn't hide his Reiki presence since he was in a cave this deep, and the surface was no man's land. Charlie flinched in surprise when his Reiki found Barlin, and he immediately realized that it was a cultivator and one much stronger than himself. He now knew for a fact that there were two cultivators in Antarctica, the first being himself and the other being the Qing Eliminating Society elder he had screwed over.So it goes without saying who the cultivator at the underground cave was.Though thrilled for a moment, he was ready to run but still stopped to glare at the arrow up in the skies

Barlin felt he missed out big time when he couldn't make it through the Gate of Transcendence, but seeing Charlie now, he was thanking fate for sending him alms—like a farmer who found a gold nugget while plowing. After all, Fleur had issued a very generous bounty on the mysterious enemy that had been killing Qing Eliminating Society's bigwigs and destroying their bases. While Barlin himself wasn't going to be appointed as a military governor, Fleur definitely couldn't complain as she handed over scores of mystic treasures and pills!Charlie was ready and wary for a fight to the death, but he knew how to read people, and dissed Barlin despite having no chance to win, "Come on, geezer! You've been hiding like a rat from the Americans this long, don't even think you can impress me!""So it's you!!!" Barlin hollered, his eyes narrowing sharply. "And here I thought the Japanese messed up, but it's you who screwed me over?!""Haha! That's for sure!" Charlie laughed out loud and scof
