Moreover, Bernard knew that the Maldivian general's words couldn't be taken at face value, as he might not have enough political weight to come good on his word.Nonetheless, the Maldivian military soon cleared up the area of the incident, with some of them registering a list of guests who were at the party, while others were disposing of the headless corpses.Naturally, their military's combat ability and mentality was lacking compared to Oskian conscripts, let alone regular military. There had been no war here for decades, and the last major action was eighty Sri Lankan mercenaries attempting a coup in Male.Despite such a meager force, the president at the time couldn't even fight back and had to turn to India, who in turn sent over a thousand paratroopers to pacify the situation. It hence goes without saying a force that could not handle eighty mercenaries was definitely not going to handle dozens of headless corpses. Most of them were throwing up as they moved the corpses, an

The Maldivian navy frigates took their sweet time, only arriving an hour later.Naturally, there was nothing to do aside from disposing of the bodies, which they loaded on the frigates and transported to Male.Charlie then texted Tanya, asking her to remind Bernard about a certain matter. After reading it, Bernard nodded at Tanya, "Please reply that should he ever need me with anything, I'll definitely do my best!"Then, puffing his chest and rearing his head like a rooster, he told the general, "I suspect that these bodies were Blackwater mercenaries. With the world's netizens as my witness, I demand due process—each body must be identified, while I demand someone take full responsibility for this entire incident. If they are Blackwater, then they have the public's outcry to answer for!"The Blackwater executives watching the livestream almost choked right then. The plan was to send diplomats to head over to the Maldives, pressuring officials here and there to either move the bo

Jacob certainly thought so too, not realizing that the sweetness was actually the scent of blood in the air as he chuckled, "Goddamn… we didn't spend a cent, but we're going to leave richer than when we came! Forget the air—even the seawater is going to taste so sweet!"Elaine nodded happily. "Oh, and it's the eve of the Oskian New Year. This must be a sign of good things to come for the new year…"Still, something occurred to her and she suddenly groaned in disappointment, "Oh, it's such a shame!"Jacob quickly asked, "What? What's a shame?"Elaine wrung her wrists, "Claire and Charlie weren't at the bar! If they were, that's another 200 grand more!"Jacob realized with a start and blurted, "Oh, you're right! Damn, we really lost big time! 200 grand… so close yet so far!"Elaine shook his head. "No, I'm heading over to wake them and tell them to register themselves on the list too. We'll just say we left in a hurry and forgot to register, and we still might get compensated."As

Claire quickly read through the articles, which alleged that Blackwater was attempting to assassinate a rival by impersonating the Ten Thousand Armies and mounting a terror attack.Their target was every guest at the seaview bar—a major incident that would shock the world. They just didn't expect Bernard Arnault—formerly the world's richest man—to be there. He offered billions, leading to the mercenaries turning on each other and putting a swift end to the crisis.Claire was at once delighted that Bernard was there, or her parents might have been killed!Still, despite immediately believing the news for a moment, a different thought soon occurred to her. There was no way Charlie remained oblivious if something this bad happened on the island. After all, she had witnessed Jeevika's extraordinary abilities, and how he had told her that he would never measure up against Charlie. And it was just not Charlie's style to not intervene.Did that mean everyone was saved last night tha

Jacob suddenly felt jealous hearing that Charlie and Claire would get compensated even if they weren't at the seaview bar last night. In his opinion, he was risking his hide to make that money. Still, his son-in-law and daughter made the money without being in danger, which meant risking his hide was pointless. After everything was said and done, he was still a university graduate and did the math right then.If a person on the island was X, the danger was Y, X+Y meant being on the island and being in danger, and that was worth 100,000 USD.But now, just X also counted as 100,000 USD, which meant Y's value was zero.Elaine quickly got upset too, and grumbled at Hani, "Honestly… you need to tell your boss that we almost died last night, but my son-in-law and daughter weren't even at the bar. If they get 100,000 USD too, shouldn't we get twice that? It's like the danger wasn't a factor…"Hani shook his head apologetically. "I'm sorry, Madam Parker, but it's an executive decision fr
