"Diego!"
Jedidiah's expression was ashen as he asked Diego, "What happened here? What are you doing here so late at night? Who wounded you this badly? Also, where is Khloris?"
The other sect members' gazes landed intently on Diego. They seemed to be waiting for an answer from him too.
Diego took a deep breath, speaking weakly, "I was out making rounds tonight when I heard a noise from the water dungeon, so I came to see about it. I saw Olive trying to help Khloris escape when I got here!"
Diego's expression was utterly solemn as he spoke, but his chest throbbed with uncertainty.
He could not tell them that he broke into the water dungeon and tried to take advantage of Khloris. He could only lie about it.
"Olive came back?"
Jedidiah frowned lightly. "And she took Khloris with her?"
"Exactly!"
Diego nodded, putting on an expression of shame and anger. "I tried to stop her, but Olive seems to have learned sword skills from somewhere else. She was a nightmare. I was no match for her, and
